Port of Tacoma CEO John Wolfe gave business leaders a high-level overview of port challenges on Friday and asked them to use their influence to help the port succeed.
Wolfe said business leaders could talk to their communities and lawmakers about four things:

• Ensuring state lawmakers don’t empty out an environmental cleanup fund that could be used on the Tideflats.

• Avoiding a tax on cargo. At least half the cargo coming through Tacoma’s port is discretionary, meaning it could come to shore anywhere.

• More state transportation funding to invest in roads to handle trucks.

• Creation of more railroad capacity between Washington state and the upper Midwest for exports including grain.
