Slammed for two years by nosediving demand for imported cars, the Port of Hueneme is finally seeing a robust turnaround, according to a new financial analysis.

The report, presented to port commissioners recently, showed cargo tonnage at the only commercial seaport between Los Angeles and San Francisco was up 12.1 percent from the previous year as of June 30. That resulted in a 3.9 percent revenue gain, or $392,910. A year earlier, revenues were down 13.9 percent, or about $1.6 million, according to the analysis.

Since July, automotive exports are up 13 percent to 14 percent, fueled mostly by demand in China for General Motors and Chrysler vehicles, along with U.S.-produced Honda models.
