The Longshoreman’s local (ILWU 502) started raising funds for the Children’s Hospital three months ago with the goal to raise at least $10,000. They surpassed their minimum and are well on their way to making a donation of over $15, 000 dollars. This weekend is their cut off for donations and they will make a presentation on TV on the Children’s Hospital Telethon on June 5 with their collections.
The generosity of the longshoreman union, which has traditionally being known as the New West local, has been overwhelming. A challenge has been made to all Unions and organizations to meet or beat this fundraising effort. This is a great effort which is worthy of praise and something that should be continued every year. This challenge will certainly entice others to get involved and make a difference in the community.
