Longview emergency crews rescued a longshoreman who was injured after he fell from a stack of logs on a cargo ship Wednesday morning.

The man, whose name was not identified, was on the freighter Dry Beam when he fell about 8:30 a.m., said Battalion Chief Kevin Taylor, a spokesman for the Longview Fire Department. A crane lowered firefighters down into the ship’s hold, where they stabilized the man before taking him out in a rescue basket about 30 minutes later.

The man was taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Taylor said. His condition was not known.
