The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) named Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard Steinke the recipient of this year’s Connie Award. He will receive the award at a dinner event to be held Sept. 21 in Long Beach, Calif.

The award recognizes individuals who exert a “significant influence” on containerization in world trade and transportation, and display an “innovative spirit” during their careers, according to the institute. Steinke — who has served the port for more than 14 years and plans to retire on Sept. 30 — has been instrumental in developing the port into one of the world’s largest container harbors, CII officials said in a prepared statement.
