Bangladeshi officials said Friday that the country’s main port was operating normally after the army was sent in to break a strike by dock workers that had hit crucial garment exports.
Hundreds of soldiers were patrolling the port Friday to enforce a temporary ban on protests and demonstrations, and the police have launched a major investigation into violence during the strike.
“We have arrested 40 port workers in the last two days,” local police chief Naimul Hasan said.
