Longshoremen at Montreal’s port have accepted a new contract that was worked out earlier this month. The Canadian Union of Public Employees says a strong majority of the 850 longshoremen voted in favour of the four year deal Thursday.

The contract provides wage increases of 1.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent. The 900 longshoremen were involved in a five-day lockout at the port in July, but work resumed five days later under an interim agreement.
