A federal judge in Spokane on Thursday temporarily blocked a plan to ship Honolulu garbage to a Central Washington landfill through the Port of Longview … and set an Aug. 30 hearing in Yakima to consider a permanent injunction against the shipment plan.
A coalition of the Yakama Indian Nation and several environmental groups is trying to block the waste shipments, saying the government and the shipment company have not done enough to ensure that invasive species will not escape into the region and damage crops and cause other environmental damage.
