Tower raising on the newest mobile crane in Vancouver.

Vancouver's twin mobile cranes are credited with attracting cargo to the port.

The Port of Vancouver USA Executive Director on Thursday projected a return to growth in 2010 following a year in which a surge in business from the wind energy industry helped offset losses elsewhere. Jobs will be created by several construction projects now underway at the port, including the $137 million West Vancouver Freight Access rail project. But 2009 was also marked by a sharp decrease in business at the port’s marine terminals, with exports of building products such as lumber and steel leading the decline. The port expects to see continued growth in heavy-lift and wind energy cargos this year as well as strong wheat exports. The two new harbor cranes installed last year have also attracted new cargo.
