“With strategic investment we could position the state of Florida to be the kingpin for everything east of the Rockies and south of Canada,” says Joe Mazurkiewicz, a political consultant and member of the state’s transportation commission. He’s been taking this ambitious message on the road. Working with Go21, an association that promotes freight transportation, Mr. Mazurkiewicz has been delivering a presentation that describes in broad terms how the Panama Canal expansion, coupled with improvements in the freight rail system, can change the state’s economic landscape.
