Industry-wide vessel schedule reliability improved to 72.3 percent in the first quarter of 2012, but carriers’ service standards for some commercial processes remain as low 40 percent, according to a quarterly report on the shipping sector.

The report named the most reliable carriers for the period were Maersk Line of Denmark and its Belgium-headquartered sister company Safmarine, followed by Hanjin Shipping of South Korea.

Drewry said that for the first time, it has incorporated new key performance indicators using data from e-commerce platform CargoSmart that measure commercial and operational performance at the box level.
