The International Transport Workers Federation has given a written warning to OOCL of Hong Kong to avoid Auckland’s port after its affiliate, the Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ) sought help to resolve the months-long dispute.
The dispute arose when the port replaced its container shuttle service between the Bledisloe and Fergusson wharves, operated by dockers, with a trucking service.
Peter Conway, secretary of the Council of Trade Unions, said the dispute “was sorted out behind the scenes last week and has largely been resolved.”
MUNZ Local 13 President Garry Parsloe said the shuttles, specialised vehicles used to move containers, are being put into maintenance in preparation for resumption of the service.
