A second person died from his injuries after a vessel’s line snapped Thursday morning at the Port of Longview.
The Port says Chief Mate Pingshan Li died at Southwest Washington Medical Center just before 10:30 PM Thursday.
Li, of China, was 41 years old.
Another man, 34-year-old Byron Jacobs died at the scene after the vessel line snapped in half and recoiled. According to officials, a vessel was moving along the dock from one loading hatch to another when one of the lines snapped and flew back toward the dock and the ship.
Another longshoreman and security guard suffered minor injuries.
Our profound condolences go out to Chief Mate Li’s family, friends and crew mates, as well as Brother Jacobs’ loved ones and members of Local 21.
