Excerpts from the Journal of Commerce:
The Port of Long Beach will issue a request for proposals to companies interested in developing and operating a chassis support
yard in the harbor, a move that could hasten the day when most chassis are removed from container terminals.Removing chassis from container terminals offers benefits to many port users, with the ultimate goal being to reduce congestion and increase
cargo velocity at major gateways. Terminal operators generally support this development because it frees up costly waterfront land for cargo handling. Truckers welcome the ability to efficiently pick up chassis that have been pre-inspected by longshoremen and cleared for use.Los Angeles in December issued a similar RFP for chassis-support facilities at four sites.
