A.P. Moller-Maersk, the Denmark-based parent company of APM Terminals and the two shipping lines, said its terminals unit had net profit of $115 million, compared with $60 million in the first quarter of 2009. Revenue rose 8 percent to $1.1 billion.
For several years, APM Terminals has been working to increase its business from customers other than Maersk and Safmarine. The company said its volume from other shipping lines rose 20 percent from the first quarter of 2009 and amounted to 42 percent of APM Terminals’ volume, compared with 39 percent a year earlier.
