Our profound condolences go out to our ILWU Local 63 Brother’s family, friends, and brothers and sisters on the docks.
A 71-year-old longshore worker was killed Wednesday at the Port of Los Angeles in what is being described as an industrial accident, a port spokesman said.
The man, a member of Local 63 of the marine clerk’s union, was working in a staging area at the Everport Terminal at Berths 226-236 located on Terminal Island — across the Main Channel from the cruise terminal and the Battleship Iowa — when he was run over by a tractor trailer at about 2:45 p.m., according to spokesman Phillip Sanfield.
The man’s name and other details were not available, Sanfield said, adding that the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) was investigating along with Port police.
The union office had no comment as the incident was still under investigation as of late Thursday.
