The Port of Oakland revealed Thursday that it is in advanced negotiations with container cargo operator TraPac for a terminal, and has found new berths to handle nearly all the cargo that will be displaced by the departure of one of its terminal companies.
The disclosures came during a luncheon presentation by the executive director of the Port of Oakland, Christopher Lytle, as part of a “State of the Port” address.
TraPac, which currently operates a terminal at the Port of Oakland, could be a big part of that reset and solution for the East Bay cargo hub.
In an interview with this newspaper after his speech and a question-and-answer session, Lytle said the negotiations are for the 44-acre terminal complex that is being vacated by the Ports America and Terminal Investment venture.
