From the Montreal Gazette:

After two four-day walk-outs to protest stalled contract talks, dockworkers at the Port of Montreal launched an unlimited strike at 7 a.m. Monday.

The Syndicat des débardeurs du Port de Montréal and the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) were unable to reach an agreement despite talks that lasted until 1 a.m. Monday.

The union issued a statement Monday morning stating the the strike was triggered because of salary changes made last week by management and that a “technical lockout” had already begun as inbound ships were re-routed to other ports, reducing the amount of work available.

Union counsellor Michel Murray on Monday blamed the strike on the MEA and the shipping companies operating at the port.
