The city of Oakland plans to appeal a federal judge’s ruling that a citywide ban on coal violated an agreement with a developer building a massive terminal near the Port of Oakland.
Oakland City Attorney Barbara Parker announced at Tuesday’s City Council meeting that the council unanimously approved her recommendation.
Mayor Libby Schaaf issued the following statement: “I am proud Oakland will continue to fight for our community’s health by appealing a federal court judgment that would allow a coal terminal built in our city.”
Parker said she plans to file the appeal soon.
