Note: Records show that the Auto Banner departed Portland on May 3 bound for Incheon, where the fire broke out on May 21.

A Panama-registered car carrier caught fire while anchored at the South Korean Port of Incheon on Monday, but all of its crewmen safely evacuated, port officials here said Monday.

The fire took place at around 9:40 a.m. on the 52,422-ton ship carrying some 2,000 used cars bound for Libya, the officials said.

The overheated engine of one of the cars is presumed to be the cause of the fire, the officials said, adding that firefighters are still struggling to put out the fire.

“No casualties have been reported among the ship’s 28 crew members,” they said.

The vessel, just identified as “A,” entered the port from the United States on Saturday and was scheduled to leave for Libya on Tuesday, according to the officials.
