The crew of a Hanjin Shipping vessel docked at the Port of Vancouver is being well looked after, a local chaplain has confirmed, despite many of the company’s vessels across the Pacific being left in limbo after the company filed for protection from creditors.
The Hanjin Vienna, a 280-metre-long container ship, landed at the Deltaport container terminal Tuesday, but terminal operator Global Container Terminals declined to handle cargo from the vessel because it couldn’t guarantee it would be able to pay for the service.
A chaplain with the local Mission to Seafarers said the crew of the German-flagged vessel has told him they have been paid and are being looked after, though they are not seeking publicity.
