The Port of Tacoma has officially entered the fray of the Seattle Arena debate. It’s part of the new dynamic after the Port of Seattle joined their neighbors to the south to create the Northwest SeaPort Alliance.

It led to a meeting Tuesday morning in which the commissioners for the combined maritime operations discussed their concerns over Chris Hansen’s proposed arena in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. Port of Tacoma commissioners … joined their SeaPort Alliance partners and approved a “statement of principles” regarding the project development.

That statement reads, in part, “We oppose non-industrial and non-maritime expansion around the North Harbor that will restrict freight mobility, constrain the anticipated development of marine cargo facilities, and limit the growth of related middle-class jobs.”
