Viking Emerald ran aground near Columbia City. Rod Stevens, KGW

The U.S. Coast Guard says the cargo ship that lost steering and ran aground in the Columbia River Saturday has been towed to Portland.

Marine traffic shows a cargo ship named Viking Emerald on the Washington side of the border in Caples Landing, across the Columbia River from Columbia City.

The vessel was making a trip from Tacoma, Wash. and was supposed to arrive in Portland at 4 p.m., according to Marine traffic. Viking Emerald is about 548 feet long by 91 feet wide. It was transporting vehicles.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Amanda Norcross said Sunday that Foss Maritime tugboats got the 550-foot long Viking Emerald off the beach and towed it to Portland’s Terminal 6 sometime Saturday night.

Norcross said there were no reports of pollution, injuries or damage to the vessel.
