Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) has released the following statement in response to PMA’s decision not to conduct vessel work from 5 pm February 6 to 8 am February 9:
“PMA’s decision to not conduct vessel work from 5 pm tonight to 8 am Monday morning is deeply upsetting and will undoubtedly hurt local ILWU workers and their families in our communities with decreased work opportunities and obvious paycheck reductions. Businesses across the country who depend on cargo deliveries will experience further delays and financial loss. Suspending weekend work is not due to a lack of space for unloaded cargo and in fact will make congestion problems even worse come Monday morning. I condemn this weekend lockout and urge PMA to reconsider actions that interfere with good faith negotiations. A deal between the PMA and ILWU appears to be close. I encourage both parties to stay at the table and focus on concluding negotiations as soon as possible.”
