An eastbound CN freight train hauling crude oil has derailed on the CN mainline north of Gogama. The wreckage is on fire according to information provide by a CN official.
The stretch of rail between Gogama and Foleyet is extremely remote and cannot be accessed by road, according to Ontario Provincial Police. CN said the derailment is about 45 to 50 kilometres north of Gogama. There are no reports of any injuries. The derailment happened around midnight Saturday, said CN.
”CN has initiated its emergency response plan and has crews responding to the site. That includes firefighting and environmental crews and equipment,” said CN spokesman Patrick Waldron in response to a query from The Timmins Times.
