The Port of Long Beach has resumed full cargo-handling operations after storm surges from Tropical Storm Marie subsided.
The port Wednesday suspended operations at two terminals due to 10- to 15-foot waves that battered south-facing piers and endangered dockworkers. The working of four vessels, including two Mediterranean Shipping Co. ships, was also interrupted.
With swells subsiding to 8 to 10 feet, Total Terminals International on Pier T resumed work on the two MSC ships: the 6,966-TEU Anton Schulte and the 8,500-TEU Seroja Enam, both of which are in trans-Pacific services. Crescent Terminal on Pier F also resumed the unloading of Mercedes-Benz automobiles from a roll-on, roll-off ship, as well as wind towers from a breakbulk ship headed to Kansas.
