Young Brothers Hawaii

The PUC’s September 2010 decision to allow Pasha to operate between Honolulu and Kahului Harbor on Maui, Hilo Harbor on the Big Island and Nawiliwili Harbor was granted on an interim basis after Young Brothers Ltd., the state’s largest interisland shipped, opposed the application, saying Pasha chose only the profitable interisland routes. Young Brothers had requested the PUC reconsider the decision, but the PUC denied the request.

Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines ended its interisland shipping service in Hawaii at the end of 2013 after the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission’s 2010 interim decision allowing the shipper to operate interisland service expired.

The Maui News reports a spokeswoman for Pasha said the shipping company, which is headquartered in San Rafael, Calif., and operates service between Hawaii and the West Coast, won’t reapply for a permanent permit to resume interisland service.
