Two thousand people marched in solidarity for the Maritime Union workers who lost their jobs this week and now the Australian Maritime Union have weighed in too – with its members refusing to unload a ship that was worked on by non-union staff in Auckland.

“These guys are not alone, this is a global issue and they better sit down and find a settlement or otherwise the Port of Auckland is going to continue to get grief and it’s going to get bigger and worse,” says Mick Doleman of the Australian maritime Union.

Union workers have waged war against the Ports of Auckland since August and international support is growing.

“People are stepping up around the world, the international dock workers movement is well organised and there’s going to be support for the Maritime Union of New Zealand in ports around the world, you can count on that,” says Ray Familathe of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
