A female member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1475 was killed this morning when she was struck by a forklift while working at Georgia Ports’ Ocean Terminal.

Willie Seymore, president of ILA Local 1414 in Savannah confirmed the fatality, but gave no more details.

According to sources, Southside Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident, which occurred around 10:15 a.m.

“This was a tragic accident and our hearts and prayers go out to the family, loved ones and her fellow workers along the waterfront,” said Georgia Ports executive director Curtis Foltz, who confirmed that GPA workers were not involved in the accident.

“The event is currently under investigation. We will ensure that our vigilant efforts to focus on safety continue,” he said.
