Agriculture exports make up more than half of the Port of Tacoma’s full containers. Potato exports rose 106% in 2011, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.

U.S. containerized exports hit a record 11.9 million 20-foot containerized units in 2011, with the ports of Seattle and Tacoma together accounting for 29 percent of the total.

Piers economist Mario Moreno expects U.S. container exports to climb another 3.8 percent next year. European issues shouldn’t greatly impact Washington ports’ exports because they primarily export to Asia.
