Archer Daniels Midland underlined the discomfort among Western agricultural traders, amid a rise among Eastern rivals, by unveiling its worst second-quarter earnings since the 1990s, hurt by America’s weakened grip on world crop exports.

ADM also highlighted a hit from the lower US grain exports, thanks to disappointing harvests, and in the face of a long-term rise in production in other exporting nations.
