In this video, produced by the Jobs 1st Alliance, Southern California leaders make the case for acting with urgency to improve transportation infrastructure to keep the region from losing jobs to the Panama Canal expansion. The Canal expansion will allow larger ships to bypass the West Coast and discharge their cargo on the East Coast starting in 2014.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Jobs 1st includes labor unions ILWU Local 13, 63 and 94, IBEW Local 11, Laborers Local 300, and the LA/OC Building Trades, as well as the Port of Long Beach, BNSF Railway, Union Pacific, the Southern California Association of Governments and the Southern California Leadership Council.
