A New York senator has introduced a bill that would allow seaports across the country to mimic the Port of Los Angeles’ version of the Clean Trucks Program, including a rejected provision aimed at limiting the types of drivers entering port terminals.
U.S. Senate bill would allow other ports to mimic L.A.’s Clean Trucks Program
The Clean Ports Act, submitted last week by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., would amend federal laws to allow ports nationwide to establish their own rules for implementing and enforcing environmental programs aimed at reducing harmful diesel truck emissions.
The proposed act mirrors a similar measure reintroduced earlier this year by Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.
