The Port of Longview plans to more than double its public-affairs budget in 2012 in an effort to polish its image.

Port commissioners Friday approved their $32.3 million budget for 2012, which includes a plan to spend $314,859 on the communications department, up from $147,220 this year.

Port Director Ken O’Hollaren has said the port must improve its communications with the public after a few rough months caught in the middle of a labor dispute between union longshoreman and the EGT grain terminal.
