The Port of Houston Authority has confirmed the death of a port worker in Morgan’s Point on Tuesday, December 6.
Joe Trevino, vice president of the International Longshoremen Association, said Allan Chase was killed by a 250,000 ton rubber tire gantry crane when he was walking toward an amenities building at Barbours Cut Container Terminal Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. Chase was a member of the ILA.
Trevino said the container crane moves from side to side and probably caught Chase from behind.
“He was cut in half,” Trevino said.
Trevino said he is devastated by the death of Chase, whom he had known for 36 years. He said Chase worked at the port for 45 years.
