The delivery of grain to Argentina’s leading ports ground to a halt last week as a trucker’s union threw up roadblocks and pickets to push for a steep increase in transportation fees.
Fetra is demanding an increase of about 30% in trucking fees, which would bring the minimum charge to about 27.50 pesos($6.55) per metric ton for short-haul grain transportation.
The area is home to ports that service most of the leading international grainbrokers, including Louis Dreyfus SA, Noble Argentina SA, the local units of Bunge Ltd. (BG) and Cargill Inc., Nidera SA and Vicentin SA.
