When — and how — will the longshore/EGT conflict end? Why doesn’t EGT want to hire union dockworkers? On the other hand, shouldn’t the company be allowed to hire whom it wants? By blocking rail lines and raiding the grain terminal, has the union crossed a line of no return?
The long-simmering dispute raises lots of questions, many that can only be answered by the two parties involved. So The Daily News put some of them in writing and asked EGT and International Longshore Warehouse Union to respond. The hope was to get a window into each side’s perspective on the long and nasty conflict.
