The Port of Los Angeles reported another increase in cargo shipments in April, marking the 15th consecutive month of growth at the nation’s busiest port.

The port handled 617,272 cargo containers last month, a 3.7 percent percent boost from April 2010, officials said. Exports increased 5.7 percent from a year earlier and imports were up 3.3 percent, while the number of empty containers passing through the port were up 2 percent.
