The Hoegh Seoul was held up in Geelong after the Maritime Union of Australia raised safety concerns. The ship had been rerouted from Melbourne during union contract negotiations.

The unloading of 600 vehicles from a ship at Geelong’s Lascelles Wharf was stalled [last week] after the maritime union raised health and safety concerns with WorkSafe.

Norwegian-owned Hoegh Seoul had been moved to Lascelles Wharf from Melbourne to unload vehicles after industrial strife caused delays in the state capital.

Victorian Regional Channels Authority CEO Peter McGovern said yesterday there had been a build-up of car carriers waiting to unload in Melbourne, costing shipping companies dearly.
