Following Japan’s 8.9-magnitude earthquake, port customers and commissioners Friday began assessing the potential economic impact on the Port of Hueneme, a major entry point for Asian vehicles.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, which ships new and used vehicles and construction machinery through the Port of Hueneme to Asia, has a Japanese hub that serves its Asian market… But it’s too soon to know what the effect of the disaster might be, an executive said.
Such problems probably won’t affect the Mitsubishis and Suzukis imported by “K” Line America Inc. through the Port of Hueneme because they aren’t loaded near the affected area, said Ray Leonard, vice president for the company’s Pacific Region Car Carrier Division.
