Port commissioners Monday awarded a nearly $10 million contract for two giant harbor cranes capable of handing maritime shipping containers as well as other cargo… They are part of a $30 million marine highway project announced last fall that would move cargo container traffic off area freeways and onto river barges among the ports of Oakland, Stockton and West Sacramento.
Marc Cuevas, president of Stockton Local 54 of the Longshore and Warehouse Union, welcomed the award.
“I am very excited about it,” he told the commission meeting. “We’re looking forward to using it in the future and bringing more productivity to the port and to this community.”
