Both of the Port of Newport’s major efforts – the International Terminal and NOAA Homeport projects – are going swimmingly, according to project managers who gave progress reports at the Feb. 22 port commissioners meeting.
Project Manager Frank Berg from Day CPM Services said work crews completed the cofferdam, or containment cell, around the Pasley on Feb. 4. … Port officials said removing the Pasley would cost $5.5 million, derived from the $15.4-million bond voters approved in 2006, which left the port short on funds for the overall project and prompted them to break it into three manageable phases. The next phase involves removing and replacing the dock in front of the Hennibique and completing utility work. Removal of the vessel itself would come later, requiring additional funding.
