The two companies both have ties to the international energy business, make millions of dollars per year and pronounce their English names the same way.

But the similarities between Ambre Energy, based in Brisbane, Australia, and Amber Energy, based in Hangzhou, China, end there.

Ambre (emphasis on the “re”) is the parent company of Millennium Bulk Terminals, which is proposing to build a coal export terminal west of Longview. … Amber, spelled like the color, the beer and the girl’s name, is a Chinese energy firm that operates three natural gas-fired power plants, all in China.

The Daily News looked into the two companies because some readers asked if the company proposing to build the Longview coal terminal, which is expected to serve Chinese markets, would in fact be Chinese-owned.
