Last week, a delegation of longshore workers from Locals 13, 63 and 94 flew to Wisconsin with other Los Angeles-area union members to support those protesting Gov. Scott Walker’s attempt to undermine collective bargaining rights. A video captured the trip and included quotes from longshore workers:

“This isn’t a Wisconsin issue, it’s a legislature issue, which happens to be at a state level, which can spread to every state in this country if we’re not careful.”

— Peter Peyton, President, ILWU Local 63

“What this governor doesn’t realize is that he’s woken the sleeping giant. … This is where students and labor across the country come together, and stand together and say, ‘We won’t let this happen — not to Wisconsin, not to Ohio, nowhere.'”

— Bobby Olvera, Jr., Vice President, ILWU Local 13

Other longshore workers in the delegation included Mark Williams, Joe Donato, Angel Blanco, Luke Hollingsworth and David Serrato from Local 13; Roger Olsen from Local 63; and Louis Hill and Fran Grove from Local 94.
