The Bellingham Herald recently published an editorial in support of the Cherry Point terminal:

We are pleased to hear plans for a bulk cargo shipping terminal are back on track, with actual construction of a facility possible in the next few years.

A plan to build a bulk shipping facility at Cherry Point has been talked about since the late 1970s, with many different boosters and investors at the forefront.

SSA officials plan a $500 million project that would include 1,700 construction jobs, 280 permanent jobs and an estimated $10 million a year in state and local tax revenue. That kind of economic investment in heavy industry is almost unheard of in this day and age. And it is something sorely needed in our community.
