With rising food prices and demand, 2011 is expected to shatter all records for California’s agriculture industry, boosting exports through local ports shipping to rising economies in Asia.
Farm exports are expected to beat previous records, set in 2007, by $20billion this year, and California will lead that growth as the nation’s largest producer of fruits, vegetables, nuts, wine and other commodities, according to new studies by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
For the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, the boom is expected to bolster exports significantly, particularly to Asia, where demand for California-grown goods has exploded in recent years.
