Growth at the Port of Oakland is slowly rebounding from the prolonged recession, but unlike other cities that are struggling to attract new business, Oakland’s port may have an ace up its sleeve: Mayor Jean Quan.
Oakland’s new mayor is an international media magnet and she is using her newfound global fame as a tireless booster for Oakland. She’s traveling to China next month with port Executive Director Omar Benjamin, a visit that likely bodes well for attracting more business to Oakland and its port, the fifth-busiest in the country.
Quan vowed during Thursday’s sold-out State of the Port breakfast to do all she can to educate companies about the value of directing their goods through the Port of Oakland.
