[NOTE: Peru is one of several Latin American countries in which dockworkers are fighting abuse by global terminal operators and their own governments. The ILWU Coast Longshore Division recently supported Callao dockworkers during their 3-week strike to regain their collective bargaining rights.]
Peruvian Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros and US Ambassador to Peru, Rose M. Likins, have launched ‘Facilitating Trade’, a project from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) which aims to provide the country with technical assistance for improving business climate and competitiveness in Peru. The event was attended by USAID/Peru Mission Director Richard Goughnour and the project’s chief Elena Conterno.
USAID’s ‘Facilitating Trade’ project will address issues such as labor matters, intellectual property, trade facilitation, administrative procedures simplification, medicine and telecommunications.
