As 2010 draws to a close and high joblessness continues plaguing local communities, surging freight volumes through San Pedro Bay offer hope for a more economically prosperous 2011.

With December totals not yet tallied, container counts through Long Beach and Los Angeles have already far surpassed totals reached in a dismal 2009, when a severe downturn in global trade caused thousands of layoffs in local transportation, retail and logistics industries.
