The Port of Long Beach continued to strengthen its name in the international community Tuesday, when port officials signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Panama Canal Authority.
The pact includes an agreement to work on measures that will promote trade between the United States and Latin America — specifically with the Caribbean and the east coast of South America through the Panama Canal. This promotion of trade is to occur through the exchange of ideas in engineering, dredging technology and environmental practices.
“In the short term, it’s not going to have a huge impact,” said Daniel Yi, port communications officer. “This is something looking strategically over the long term.”
